As needs are identified where we feel we can be of help, the Meridian Food Bank will join with others to help address the need. 

Recently, we have learned there are children who, during the school year, may have lunches provided each day but perhaps nothing or very little on the weekends.  The Meridian Food Bank and the Youth Group of Valley Shepherd Church will be offering a "Backpack Program" that will provide those children with a backpack containing food for six meals and two snacks to carry them through the weekend.  Backpacks with food will be delivered by volunteers, working with the youth group, to predetermined schools on Friday and the empty backpack will be returned to the schools on Mondays to be refilled.

This program is now underway and will continue throughout the school year.  We are currently gathering new and/or used backpacks and food appropriate for a child to be able to prepare him/her self.
